 The
difference between an ordinary portrait and a truly memorable portrait
is it’s visual connection to the soul of the subject and the photographer’s
execution in capturing that connection on film. The near mystical play
of dark and light, the angle that is just right, or the suggestive spread
of a shadow to accent a captured expression can elevate a photo to a much
higher creative plane.
Michael Grecco
specializes in connections and shadows. He has been called a "lighting
master" by Photo District News. He is known as much for his famous
subjects as he is for his sometimes moody, sometimes playful, yet always
strikingly lit portraits. He’s one of today's premier portrait photographers,
with an extensive background in editorial, commercial and advertising
photography. Michael works regularly for Entertainment Weekly, Esquire,
Forbes, Rolling Stone, Maxim and Time magazines.
Grecco will help you to "break out of the box" of ordinary portraiture
and lighting into a new, higher realm of portrait photography. Learn how
to see beyond the face, and into the heart of your subject and to distill
that vision into a single emotional image. You will be challenged to re-invent
how you see light and shadow and how to add touches of both to construct
a technically and artistically striking image.
During the Light and the Dramatic Portrait evening seminar, Michael will
demonstrate how he creates stylistic and dramatic images. Using his own
work to illustrate his talk, he'll explain his techniques for creating
light and shadow, discuss his specialty lights, and equipment and the
setups he's used to create his striking signature work. Get fully emerged
with hands on experience as Michael leads an all day workshop the following
day - expanding on his visual presentation with studio and location set-ups.
Michael will guide and challenge the workshop to expand their creative
vision, learn how to tap into your own creative resources and begin to
establish your own distinctive style. Be prepared to grow.
