Part I - The Licensing Model Survival Kit
In a lonely cemetery lies a grave stone with the following inscription,
"Here lies Photo Fred. Lost his business, now he's dead."
Does it seem as though you stand only inches away from your final epitaph?
If you feel as though you have written yours and it reads something like
Fred's, then Work from the Same Page is for you.
'The Same Page' is a plan for every photographer - senior, emerging, tall
or short. It's a simple plan - and a bold one - which seeks to firmly
address the single biggest challenge in our industry - the deterioration
of the licensing model. It's a plan that seeks to help us stay six feet
over.
By starting at the beginning with the initial phone call for an estimate,
all the way through to a detailed licensing matrix, 'The Same
Page' plan seeks to get the photographer and the client firmly on the
same page, so that expectations can best meet reality, for the
final estimate.
By discussing this process together, we will address the most basic weaknesses
that we photographers repeatedly manifest. Many of our challenges are
self-made, and much like the windmills of Don Quixote, may well be apparitions.
By boldly facing our core weaknesses together, we seek to make swift positive
corrections, as well as palatable and intelligent ones for our clients,
and for our very own success.
In short, we intend to help all photographers who seek to succeed, by
facing our single most important challenge: selling effective image licensing.
And we intend to do so by getting on the same page with our clients.
Part II - Selling Your Digital Workflow Successfully
There was a time when the world was as good as flat - and simply because
it was perceived as so. There was also a time when a photographer would
deliver film to a client, shake the client's hand and be virtually done
with the job!
With the advent of digital delivery those times are all but gone, the
world is round and digital delivery is here to stay. Most clients now
expect a full circle of value and digital capabilities. As photographers
this means we have to identify how we will package and sell our
workflow to our client from the estimate all the way to the invoice,
and back again to that next better job.
So the challenge is, how do we provide that circle of value to our clients
and manage our costs in such as way that the client gets more and we increase
our profitability in the process. We will examine that process from mock
layouts all the way to the final estimate.
